Marceline Vampire Queen

Maddy wrote to me, asking about her obsession with Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time:
It started with me constantly replaying songs and imagining her hidden in my closet, trapped in our world and unable to find a way back to Ooo. Now, I imagine her floating above me whenever I play her songs, I have fantasies of meeting her, and I’ve actually started to talk to her.
I’m being serious.
I’m CONVINCED she’s real. I mean, what if in an alternate universe the Mushroom War (which created Ooo) actually happened in like, 2012 and she exists?
What does one do? I’m not sure if I even want it to end, I just want to know what the heck is going on with my mind.
TELEVISION IS REAL MADDY. NEVER LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE.
I kid. It’s very common for a fangirl to fantasize about talking to a fictional character. Yes, even having conversations with them out loud sometimes. I say “common” because I’ve done it, you’ve done it, and I’m assuming everyone else does it, but they’re too embarrassed to admit to it. I’M ON TO YOU EVERYONE ELSE.
I’m a firm believer that when you’re talking to a fictional character, you’re talking to a part of yourself that’s neglected or frightened to emerge. I don’ t mean there’s an accessible part of you that can levitate or raise the dead. But maybe you’d like to be a fearless daredevil who doesn’t take crap from anyone. Someone who can be independent but also vulnerable in her songs.
When you think of your chats with Marceline this way, it’s no surprise that she seems very real to you. Because the desire to kickass is SO DAMN REAL.
Maddy, you can let the Vampire Queen be real, or you can learn to live out those pieces of her that say something to you. Invite them to come out of the closet and follow you as you conquer. Marceline may have had a thousand years to work on her fabulous self, but you’re the one who can step out into the sun and start your own adventure.
Im so in love with her… i dont know how to cope with that.
